Adventure Awaits in This New Slot
There are plenty of board games which have gone on to inspire the creation of online slot titles (Monopoly and Cluedo being two fine examples) but Heroes’ Gathering is a bit different because it is a slot that has been designed to look like a board game. This title, which comes from development company Relax Gaming, takes you right back to the days when you might have gathered around a table with your friends, set up your favourite RPG and whiled away a few hours exploring dungeons and defeating any dragons encountered along the way.
Pull Up a Chair to Play
Heroes’ Gathering, like all good board games, is played at a table. This is the kind of table you might find in an old inn, so you’ll see wooden barrel-style tankards, gold coins and a few half-used candles lying around and about. The slot itself has five reels and three rows, and the reels are presented in the middle of a game board that has a frame of spaces for players to navigate their way around.
There are twenty pay lines in Heroes’ Gathering, and the symbols appearing on the reels include three playing pieces, three action tiles showing daggers, a spell book and a shield, and three characters, namely a goblin, a wizard and a knight. Other symbols used in the game include a Bonus scatter and a Wild.
The developers have done a great job of making this game look and feel like a board game, and the audio experts haven’t been lazy either, because they’ve given us an impressive soundtrack that could have come directly from the Middle Ages.
Board Game Main Feature
The Board Game is the main feature in this slot, and is triggered by getting a Bonus symbol on each of the first, third and fifth reels. To the left of the game area you will see three amulets, each of which corresponds to a different group of symbols and has its own prize pot. Land a win and the corresponding amulet pot will increase by twice the payline value of that win.
A wheel symbol will be in play in this part of the game, and when it lands it will spin to give you a number between 1 and 6. Your pawn will then be moved that same number of spaces around the board, and if it lands on an amulet symbol a pin will be placed in the corresponding amulet. Land on a corner space (apart from the starting corner) and you will win a random prize. Amulet pins will be reset and the game will continue, but the amulet prize pots will continue growing.
This feature ends when you have collected three pins for any given amulet. When that happens, you will win the prize pot for that amulet, plus whatever you have won from the feature spins themselves.
We like this feature a lot, because it can go on for quite some time, it plays like a real board game and it can help you to win some serious piles of cash.
Board Game Mini Feature
In addition to the main feature, Heroes’ Gathering also boasts a Board Game mini feature. This is triggered by getting just two Bonus symbols on any of the first, third or fifth reels, and the layout is pretty much the same as in the main feature. The big difference here is that when your pawn moves to one of the three amulets for the first time, that amulet will become the only one in play, and tiles relating to the other amulets will be transformed, accordingly.
With only one amulet in play, any win landed from a spin will see twice its normal value being added to the active amulet pot. You will need to collect three pieces corresponding to the amulet in order to win its prize pot, at which point the feature will come to an end.
Fancy Dress is Optional
Heroes’ Gathering is a very nice recreation of a good old-fashioned role-playing board game, and that makes it the perfect title to play when you want to escape the hi-tech demands of day to day life in the 21st century. The advantage of playing this slot instead of a traditional RPG for real is that you don’t have to get a group of friends together or wear fancy dress. You won’t even have to talk in a funny voice.
