Monopoly is one of the most famous family board games in the world. It has been around under its current name since 1933, and existed even before that as something called The Landlord's Game. Published by Hasbro, Monopoly is something of a cultural phenomenon. It has inspired dozens of casino games over the last decade, but one of the biggest releases in recent years is Monopoly Live, which is a Live Casino offering from Evolution Gaming.

Monopoly Live: The Format

Monopoly Live is an interactive gaming extravaganza that cleverly combines the proven format of Evolution Gaming's Dream Catcher title with the perennial appeal of the Monopoly Board game. Presented by a human host and a virtual Rich Uncle Pennybags (more commonly known as Mr. Monopoly), this game is streamed live from a special studio and features plenty of augmented reality visuals.

The game itself focuses on a giant Money Wheel which is divided into 54 equally sized sections. Each Money Wheel section shows a number or a special feature. The numbers in play are 1, 2, 5 and 10, and there are six special feature segments. Two of those segments are labelled Chance, three are labelled 2 Rolls, and one is labelled 4 Rolls.

The aim of the game is to bet on whichever number you think will be indicated on the Money Wheel when it has been spun and come to rest. The winning segment is indicated by an arrow located at the 12 o'clock position just above the wheel.

Monopoly Live: Placing Bets

Bets are placed on a simple layout at the foot of the screen. This layout shows six Monopoly money banknotes labelled 1, 2, 5, 10, 2 Rolls and 4 Rolls. You can bet on any of those outcomes simply by placing chips to the value of your desired bet on the banknote of your choice. There is no option to bet on the Chance outcome because that applies to all players no matter what bet they have placed.

The available betting period is timed, and it isn't long at all, so don't hang around. When betting has closed, the Money Wheel will be spun to determine who will win and who will lose.

If the Money Wheel comes to rest on a segment showing 1, 2, 5 or 10, and you have bet on that same outcome, your bet will be settled at those same odds. For example, if you bet $10 on 1 and it shows, you will win $10 plus your stake back. Similarly, if you bet $10 on 5 and it shows, you will win $50 plus your stake back.

Should one of the two Chance segments be indicated at the end of the spin, a Chance card will be drawn. This will either show an instant cash prize or a multiplier value. If it shows an instant cash prize, you'll win that prize. If it shows a multiplier value, all number segments on the Money Wheel will be increased accordingly. The wheel will then be spun again with your original bet remaining in force, giving you a chance to win even more than was possible on the previous spin.

Monopoly Live: 3D Bonus Game

Whilst the Money Wheel is exciting, it's the 3D Bonus Game that really sets Monopoly Live apart from something like Dream Catcher. This is triggered when the Money Wheel shows a 2 Rolls or 4 Rolls segment, and it can only be played by those who have bet on that winning outcome. It is, therefore, a good idea to bet on both 2 Rolls and 4 Rolls if you want to guarantee your participation in the 3D Bonus Game when it is triggered.

This bonus round takes you into a world where Monopoly is much more than a board game. The familiar board is certainly here, but it is presented in 3D at the heart of a metropolitan landscape, and the computer-generated graphics which make everything come to life are just superb.

Here, Mr. Monopoly will walk around the board, collecting all kinds of prizes and multipliers as he does so. If the game was triggered by a 2 Rolls segment, you will initially get two rolls of a pair of dice. If the game was triggered by a 4 Rolls segment, you will initially get four rolls of the dice. Should you roll a double at any point, you'll get an extra roll.

Each property on the Monopoly board has its own value, and when Mr. Monopoly lands on a property, you will win its value multiplied by your bet. Also, note that if this feature is triggered after a multiplier has been made active thanks to a Chance card in the Money Wheel part of the game, the property values will be multiplied accordingly.

Of course, the game of Monopoly Live is as authentic as the board game, so it isn't always good news. Mr. Monopoly might land on a space that requires you to pay tax, or that draws a card which fines you for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. You can even end up in jail, which means that you'll need to roll a double to get out!

The 3D Bonus Round is where Monopoly Live really shines, and the first time you see it for yourself, you'll be blown away by just how good it is. Some players have likened it to stepping into another world, and whilst that might sound a bit dramatic, we have to say that they aren't exaggerating!
