Evolution Gaming has been breathing new life into online casino games for some time, but it did something particularly special when it created Lightning Roulette. Lightning Roulette: The Format

Just as in a regular game of Live Roulette, Lightning Roulette focuses primarily on the roulette wheel and the betting layout. It is streamed from a purpose-built studio that has been designed to blend the traditional and modern. Therefore, you can expect to see plenty of Art Deco elements as well as rather more modern lightning flourishes.

The roulette wheel is a fairly standard European roulette wheel with a single green zero, and occupies the middle of the presentation area. A uniformed croupier will stand beside the wheel for the most part, and a betting layout will span the foot of your own screen. Graphical elements will appear behind the wheel and dealer as the game is played. These are very nicely done and seem to hang in the air as if by magic.

Lighting Roulette: The Bets

Lightning Roulette provides the same betting opportunities as the regular game, and the betting layout has the same format. The odds paid for all bets are also the same, with the exception of the Straight Up bet. This is a bet on a single number, and it would normally pay odds of 35:1, but in Lightning Roulette, the odds for success are 30:1. That’s because this game also features a Lucky Numbers enhancement, as we’ll explain shortly.

Lightning Roulette: Gameplay

Those of you who have played any standard online roulette game will find Lightning Roulette to be almost identical. Bets are made by placing casino chips on the table layout at the foot of your screen. Placing a $5 chip in the EVEN field would therefore be a $5 bet that the next number will be even. A $5 chip placed on the number 17 would be a bet that the next winning number will be 17, and so on.

When all bets have been placed, a graphical table layout behind the wheel will ripple as lightning appears to course through it. Most of the layout will disappear, but anything from 1 to 5 randomly selected ‘Lucky Numbers’ will be left behind. Each of those Lucky Numbers will then be randomly assigned a multiplier value. The multiplier values possible are 50x, 100x, 200x, 300x, 400x and 500x.

The Lucky Numbers and their multiplier values will be highlighted on the table layout at the foot of the screen for reference. For example, if the number 17 has been selected as a Lucky Number and has been assigned a multiplier of 200x, the number 17 on the table layout will alternate with the value of 200x. This helps players to see exactly which numbers have been enhanced for the following spin.

After all of this has taken place, the roulette wheel will be spun in the usual manner. The well in which the ball settles when the wheel comes to rest determines the winning number for that spin. Anyone who has placed a winning bet on that number will then be paid. A winning bet on a Lucky Number will be settled at the regular odds multiplied by the associated multiplier value.

Because this is essentially a game of chance, there is no way in which it can be beaten, no matter how clever you are. Every spin of the wheel is an independent event that is completely unrelated to anything that has happened before. It is therefore impossible to guarantee success. You simply have to make your bets and hope that you get lucky at some point.

Having said all of that, it would be a waste to play Lightning Roulette in the same cautious way that you might approach a standard roulette game. That’s because the random Lucky Numbers and multipliers that are generated before each spin are things that will only benefit those who have made Straight Up bets.

The good news is that you don’t need to take massive risks to be in with a chance of winning big here. Here are a number of strategies that you can choose from to suit your attitude towards risk…

• Cover 30. Because a Straight Up bet in this game pays odds of 30:1, you could consider betting on 30 different numbers. That would give you a great chance of being on at least one Lucky Number, if not several. And you also have a great chance of seeing one of your numbers win, which would get all of your money back. If you’re cautious by nature, this might be the best strategy to adopt.
• Cover 16. Those of you who normally like to bet on odd, even, red or black can place individual number bets on all numbers that reflect your preference. You could bet on each of the 16 red numbers, for example, or on each of the 16 odd numbers. You’d have a decent chance of landing a winner, and that would give you a profit even without a Lucky Number being involved.
• Cover 5. If you are more aggressive, you could bet on five different numbers. You’d need plenty of luck to win with this strategy, but if you bet in $1 units, you’d get $30 back for an outlay of $5. And if the Lucky Number comes into play, your profits could be huge.
