We don't know if you're already aware, but January 31 is National Backward Day. This is a day on which people are actively encouraged to do things a bit differently by basically doing things backward. You might decide to wear your suit back to front for the day, say goodbye when you greet someone or eat dessert before your main course. Or, if you'd prefer to keep your reputation as a normal person intact, you could just do what we'll be doing and play slot games that pay right-to-left as well as left-to-right. Here are four of our favourites.
Siberian Storm
Siberian Storm isn't a new slot by any means, but it's still a very popular one. First released by IGT for land-based casinos in 2011, the online version was released in 2017. This is a five-reel slot with a 3-4-5-4-3 format that gives you 720 ways to win with each spin and which focuses on the breathtaking majesty of the Siberian tiger.
Symbols include a variety of tiger tooth trinkets, two versions of the Siberian tiger itself, and the Siberian Storm logo. The game takes place against the icy backdrop of a Siberian forest, and a thundering soundtrack wastes no time in establishing a suitably adventurous atmosphere.
Land five tiger's eye symbols on the reels, and you'll trigger a Free Spins round that will give you eight free spins. More free spins can be retriggered, and the maximum number of free spins that you can enjoy in any given round is 240.
This is a MultiWay Xtra game, and so you will be paid for matching three or more symbols regardless of whether they start on the far left, as in a normal slot game, or on the far right. That makes this title perfect for National Backward Day. And if you manage to win the top prize of 1,000 times your bet, you could celebrate in a suitably backward way by looking as miserable as possible.

2 Gods: Zeus vs Thor
This is a 2020 release from 4ThePlayer that gives you the chance to see how two of the biggest names in the deity business might fare if they went against each other one-on-one. The two gods we're referring to are Zeus in the Greek corner and Thor in the Norse corner. No, it isn't a boxing match, but we thought that sounded pretty cool.
The game has five reels which are flanked by Zeus on the left and Thor on the right. The reels in-between represent the ground on which the two gods will do battle. Lower-value symbols include a mixture of Greek letters of the alphabet and ancient runic symbols, while medium-value symbols comprise helmets, ships, and fearsome creatures from Greek and Norse history and mythology.
Zeus and Thor are both paying wild symbols and stand a full four rows tall. Zeus and the Greek symbols pay from left to right, while Thor and the Norse symbols pay from right to left.
This is a Dual Spin game, which means there are two spin buttons. Spin with the red button, and all wins from left to right will be doubled in value. Spin with the blue button and all wins from right to left will be doubled. Opposing wins will also count, but only at standard paytable values.
Get three scatters, and you'll trigger a Win Spins Bonus game. This will give you seven spins, with each spin being a guaranteed win. Choose your spin colour for each spin, and if your win matches the colour selected, a Win Spin Multiplier will increase before it pays.
Toki Time is a wonderfully strange slot from Thunderkick that is ideal for playing on National Backward Day. It takes place in a cartoon-style world where the sky slowly cycles from day to night and back again, and instead of five reels, there are five holes in the ground. Press the spin button, and each hole will shoot a stream of symbols upward.
Symbols in this game comprise a variety of strange and colourful creatures (are they alien or just very weird looking?) as well as a cloud with a rainbow and a shooting star with a cosmic rainbow. An expanded wild on the second and fourth reels will give you a respin of all other reels. The wild is white and looks a bit like a lama, and it will match the colour of other symbols when doing so will give you a win.
As well as having non-reels that shoot symbols upwards (as opposed to regular reels that spin them down) this game pays right-to-left as well as left-to-right. But really, the rest of the game is even weirder and in the best possible way.
Our final slot recommendation is The Hive from BetSoft. Released in 2020, this game doesn't have a classic appearance but instead takes place on a hexagonal honeycomb grid containing 19 separate cells. Higher-value symbols include various flowers, honey bees, and a honey pot wild.
Winning combinations can be achieved anywhere on the honeycomb as long as the symbols align horizontally or diagonally and start on the left or right. Special bees can spawn at random to multiply wins or fill a Honey Meter located to the left of the grid. When the Honey Meter is full, you'll get five free spins with one, two, or three Honey Burst Spreading wilds helping you out.
This is the gentlest game of the four that we're suggesting, making it ideal for playing at the end of a long working day. Or, since we're recommending it for National Backward Day, you could play it at breakfast time before you've even started.

Have a Happy National Backward Day!
We don't know who thought of National Backward Day, or why, but we'll take any excuse to play more slots. Enjoy the four that we've featured here, and luck good!
