Back in December 2016, Microgaming released its first-ever slot to feature the character of Tarzan, who was created and made famous by novelist Edgar Rice Burroughs at the beginning of the twentieth century. Simply called Tarzan, that first game boasted stunning visuals as well as some superb features, and now Microgaming has delivered its long-awaited sequel, Tarzan and the Jewels of Opar.
Tarzan and the Jewels of Opar
The first Tarzan slot from Microgaming was based, as you would expect, on the first Rice Burroughs novel to feature the ‘king of the jungle’, Tarzan of the Apes. This new game, which was created by Gameburger Studios, is based on the fifth novel in the series, which was first published in book form in 1918.
The plot of Tarzan and the Jewels of Opar is fairly straightforward. Tarzan is the only person who knows the location of a vast stockpile of gold, but he is followed to the ancient location by an army officer called Werper who works for a criminal employer. Tarzan is hit by rocks during an earthquake and survives, but he is now suffering from amnesia and must fend off the advances of La, the High Priestess of Opar, as well as figure out why Werper is around. In the meantime, Tarzan’s wife Jane has been kidnapped by Werper’s criminal employer, and the big question is whether the jungle king will be able to regain his memory in time to foil the bad guys and do something about it.
Slot Format and Presentation
Tarzan and the Jewels of Opar is a five-reel slot with 20 pay lines. Once again, the visuals in this game are stunning, with the background portraying the edge of the jungle close to the lost city of Opar. Watch the gaming environment carefully and you’ll see plenty of life, with Tarzan himself swinging around from time to time, so pay particular attention whenever you hear him call.
Symbols used in this game include jungle versions of the playing card ranks of J, Q, K and A, the characters of Werper, Jane, La and Tarzan, and a black panther, which is a paying wild. Other special symbols include a jackpot scatter and a free spins scatter. A rhythmic soundtrack plays as you spin the reels, and there are plenty of jungle sounds effects present to provide a generous layer of audible realism.
Random Wilds
At random points throughout the game, Tarzan will swing into action, adding two or more wild symbols to the reels every time he swings past them. He can swing past the reels more than once, and this allows him to add up to 15 wilds to the reels.
Free Spins Wheel Feature
Land three Free Spins scatter symbols on the reels and you will spin a wheel to determine how many free spins you will get and what multiplier will be active for each of them. You can get up to 30 free spins with a multiplier of up to 10x, and Random Wilds can also be triggered during this part of the game.
Jackpot Scatter Feature
Three or more jackpot scatter symbols appearing on the reels is always good news, because it will give you an instant cash prize. The more scatters you get, the bigger the prize will be, and if you get the maximum of nine symbols on the reels at once you will win the top prize of 5,000 times your bet.
Hallmarks of a Classic
‘Gameburger have pulled off another incredibly fun and playable game in Tarzan and the Jewels of Opar, which has all the hallmarks of a classic Microgaming title,’ said Andrew Booth, who is Director of Games at the company. ‘The game was an absolute hit during an early exclusive release period, consistently performing among our top five games per operator in terms of player retention alone. Players are going to love this new spin on a branded classic.’
Well Worth the Wait
Fans of the first Tarzan game from Microgaming have been waiting almost four years for this follow-up, and we’re delighted to say that Tarzan and the Jewels of Opar has made it completely worthwhile.
