In 2016, Red Tiger released a slot that put a collection of large gem symbols centre stage. There’s nothing unusual about that, you might think, but the gems in Gems Gone Wild all had the ability to go wild. That simple feature, which was of course triggered quite randomly, made the game hugely popular, and now Red Tiger Gaming has released a long-awaited sequel called Gems Gone Wild Power Reels.
Even Bigger and Better
Whilst the payout potential in Gems Gone Wild Power Reels is roughly the same as in its predecessor (you can win a top prize of over 3,000 times your bet) this sequel offers a bigger game grid and more pay lines. Whereas Gems Gone Wild had a five-reel, three-row format and ten pay lines, Gems Gone Wild Power Reels has eight reels, six rows and thirty pay lines.
The bigger grid in this title means that the gems appear smaller on the screen, but the visuals are still as impressive as ever. The reels are transparent and are shown hanging in deep space, with a mysterious nebulaic vortex visible in the background. Symbols appearing on the reels are, as you would expect, a variety of gems. There are eight gems in total, and these differ in shape, size and colour.
A space music soundtrack accompanies your playing, and this helps to give the game a quite relaxing atmosphere whilst at the same time allowing the visuals to dominate the experience. Sound effects have a video-slot vibe and punch through nicely to highlight wins and other noteworthy events.
How to Win
As with most other slots, you will win prizes in Gems Gone Wild Power Reels by getting three or more adjacent matching symbols on any pay line. However, in this game, it isn’t necessary for the first symbol in such a combination to be located on the first reel. Wins pay left to right, right to left and also anywhere in the middle of a pay line, which means that it is even possible to land more than one win on the same pay line.
Wild and Locked Wilds
Every spin that you take could result in one or more symbols transforming into a wild. Once any wins assisted by those wilds have been paid, the wild symbols will be locked in place for the next spin. If more wilds appear then those too will be locked, and so on. When no further wild symbols land on the reels, all locked symbols will be removed and play will return to normal until the next addition of random wilds.
Super Wilds
If the chance of landing wild symbols isn’t enough to get you excited, it is also possible for Super Wilds to be triggered. These work in much the same way as the wilds just mentioned, and can lock for several spins after appearing, but they are much larger, and measure either 2x2 or 3x3, which can help you to land even bigger prizes and/or more winning lines.
Gamble Feature
A Gamble button appears below the game grid, and you can press that button after any win to try and gamble your win for something bigger. You will be taken to a separate screen on which you will see a list of prizes that you can gamble for, as well as a large circular dial. The circular dial will have a green section and a red section, and these represent your chance of winning or losing the prize highlighted.
Select the prize that you would like to gamble for, and if you are happy with your chances, as illustrated on the dial, press the large gamble button on the right. If you would prefer, you can also select a different prize, or you can back out of the gamble altogether by clicking the button marked collect.
This is a handy and potentially lucrative feature, because you can gamble your winnings repeatedly and collect them at any point. Of course, should your gamble lose you will be returned to the main game without winning anything.
Red Tiger Jackpots
When you play Gems Gone Wild Power Reels at a venue which participates in the Red Tiger Jackpot program, you will also have the chance to win one of three progressive jackpots.. There is an Hourly Drop Jackpot which must be won within a specific hour, a Daily Drop Jackpot which must be won by the end of the day, and a Big Drop Jackpot which simply climbs and climbs until someone lands the whole lot.
A Gem of a Game
Gems Gone Wild Power Reels is a superb sequel, and anyone who enjoyed the original title will love it. Visit your favourite Red Tiger Gaming casino to play - preferably Leo Vegas - and may all your spins be winning ones!
