Petition the Greek Gods for a Big Win
Whilst it is quite common for online slots players to utter general prayers to one deity or another as they spin the reels in the hope of landing a big win, there are far fewer games which actually feature any of those deities. Greek Gods from Pragmatic Play is one of the few games that do, and as the title suggests, the gods featured in this game belong to the pantheon of ancient Greece.
Have Your Prayers Been Answered?
There are over a dozen major deities in the Greek pantheon, and hundreds more lesser gods or deities. That being the case, we were just a tad disappointed to find that the Greek Gods slot game only features two of them. Fortunately, the two stars of this particular show are perhaps the most important of all: Zeus, who is King of the Gods and rules over Mount Olympus, and his wife Hera, who is Queen of the Gods.
The game takes place on Mount Olympus, and has five reels, each three rows high, which are housed in a Greek temple structure. The environment is visually very pleasing, with the marble pillars of the temple nicely reflecting the golden sunlight. This is a significant benefit of the temple being situated high above the clouds and a world away from the mortals who live their lives on the earth below.
You get 243 ways to win with every spin when playing Greek Gods. The symbols appearing on the reels include the usual playing card ranks of 10, J, Q, K and A, all of which are presented in an artistic pseudo-3D style, a golden goblet, a golden lyre (just like the one Apollo gave to Orpheus, we assume), the goddess Hera, the god Zeus, a golden Wild and a blue thunderbolt scatter, which appears on the third, fourth and fifth reels.
All of these symbols are very nicely illustrated with plenty of detail. The portrayal of Zeus and Hera is more comic-book style than anything, but that works perfectly, and helps to ensure that the visuals are just bold, clear and vivid on the screen of a smartphone as they are on a tablet or desktop.
The soundtrack featured in Greek Gods belongs to what can best be described as the modern orchestral genre, and the driving pace of the percussion picks up nicely when you are lucky enough to get into bonus features. Similarly, the sound effects that are employed to emphasise specific events on screen, such as landing a winning combination, are bright and punchy. Add in some smooth animations from time to time and this is definitely a slot that you won’t mind spending time with.
Greek Gods Random Awards
Gods and goddesses can be a fickle bunch of beings, and a Random Awards feature in this game reflects that fact. Simply play the main game as normal and should the deities involved decide to give you a random treat at some point, they will do so without warning.
Look above the third, fourth and fifth reels and you will see that the name of a random award will be shown after every spin. Should you get a full stack of blue thunderbolt scatter signs in one of those reels, the random award shown above that particular reel will be given to you. There are three possible awards that can be won in this way:
A Money Prize award, which will give you an automatic guaranteed win with a prize of up to fifty times your total bet
A Bonus award, which will instantly trigger the Greek Gods Wheel of Fortune bonus game
A Free Spins award, which will instantly trigger the Greek Gods Free Spins feature
Greek Gods Wheel of Fortune Bonus Game
As you have probably guessed already, when this feature is triggered a Wheel of Fortune will spin and the segment which is indicated when it stops will show you the prize that you have won. This will be a win of at least 10 times your total bet and possibly as much as 1,000 times your total bet.
Greek Gods Free Spins Feature
The Free Spins feature can be triggered by getting a Free Spins Random Award or by getting five or more of the blue thunderbolt scatter symbols on the reels at the same time. You will be given three free spins, plus an extra free spin for every scatter symbol shown. The blue thunderbolt symbol will appear on all five reels during this feature, as will the Random Awards. Additional free spins can be triggered here, with up to 40 free spins able to be triggered on any given spin. As if all of that wasn’t enough, the Wheel of Fortune bonus game can also be triggered via free spins.
