Slot games inspired by the mythology, culture and architecture of ancient Egypt have been popular for years, and they will continue to be so for years to come. One thing that you’ll notice about most games set in ancient Egypt is that they often feel very retrospective. That might be par for the course, given the setting, but Ankh of Anubis is something else entirely, because it presents the environment in a way that seems modern, if not downright futuristic.The background portrays a world that is instantly recognisable as Egypt, but not any kind of Egypt that you would see illustrated in a history book. If anything, the imagery looks more like something you would encounter on the cover of a blockbuster science fiction novel, complete with a flying craft of some sort, and anyone who has considered the notion that ancient Egypt might have had some kind of link with an extra-terrestrial civilisation will love seeing that idea being illustrated here.The format and symbols appearing in the game are similarly ‘advanced’ in their style. The game has five reels, with the first and the fifth reels each having three rows and the middle three reels each having four rows, forming a diamond-shaped grid. Each reel has a mid-brown background which is subtly covered in hieroglyphics, and symbols include stylised versions of the playing card ranks of J, Q, K and A, various bejewelled items of Egyptian regalia, a golden Ankh, a golden pyramid scatter and the Egyptian god Anubis, who serves as a wild.
The soundtrack suits the futuristic mood perfectly, and whilst you will hear ‘traditional’ Egyptian flourishes embedded within it if you listen closely enough, the overall feeling is one of progress rather than retrospection. Sound effects also have a rather sci-fi quality, so you should expect to hear plenty of energetic ripples and explosions accompanying your achievements.
Anubis Wilds Feature
Ankh of Anubis boasts two features, and the first of these is the Anubis Wilds feature. This can be triggered at any time as you play the main game, and when it becomes active it will add extra wild symbols to the reels. These additional wilds can be one, two, three or even four cells high, so the more Anubis you have on the reels, the easier it will be for you to complete one or more winning combinations.Ankh of Anubis Free Spins
The second feature in this game is the Free Spins round. This is triggered by getting three, four or five of the golden pyramid symbols on the reels, and you will receive ten, fifteen or twenty free spins, accordingly.During this part of the game, a special Ankh Meter will be shown above the first reel, and to begin with, this will contain five empty ankh-shaped slots. Every time you get an ankh on the reels it will fill one of those slots, and when you have filled the meter you will trigger the Anubis Wilds feature.
