Anyone who is familiar with Taoism or Chinese folk religion will know that the best deity to turn to for matters relating to cashflow and prosperity is the mythological ‘God of Wealth’ called Caishen. If the name rings a bell and you know nothing about Eastern religion then that’s probably because the figure has inspired the creation of several slot games, including the latest release from BetSoft, which is Caishen’s Arrival.

Caishen’s Arrival is the second in a new Red Dragon series of games from Betsoft which are designed to appeal to players in the Asian marketplace as much as they do to slot fans here in Canada. This game has five reels and three rows, and there are 25 pay lines, any of which could deliver a fortune.

The design of the game is simple and elegant, with the five reels being presented against a rich red background – red being a colour that is traditionally associated with prosperity and good luck. By contrast, the reels themselves have a plain white background, which helps the symbols to stand out nicely.

The playing card ranks of 10, J, Q, K and A serve as the standard symbols in Caishen’s Arrival, whilst medium and higher-value symbols include a pot of gold coins, a money tree, a turtle, gold artefacts and Caishen himself, who serves as a wild. You will also see a coin purse, which serves as a scatter, and a Red Ticket which appears on the first and fifth reels only.

Traditional Asian-style music plays throughout this game, helping to give it an authentically relaxing atmosphere which is punctuated by more celebratory motifs whenever a win occurs. Animation is impressive when used, and our only minor criticism is that some of the symbols seem to be a little crowded on the reels, with some combinations (such as a bowl of coins above a money tree) overlapping slightly. Of course, that could be an intentional design feature, and it takes nothing away from the gameplay itself, but it did catch our eye.

Double Up Wins

A Double Up game gives you the chance to turn smaller wins into bigger ones, and is offered when you achieve any standard win in the main game. Taking part in this game is completely optional, and allows you to risk half or all of your win on the toss of a golden coin to see if you can double up.

Get Blessed by Caishen

The Caishen symbol, as stated earlier, serves as a wild. However, if you are lucky enough to get three symbols on the same reel, Caishen will appear at full height to bestow a blessing upon you.
