The 1960’s was a golden decade for movies and television shows which revolved around the lives and adventures of spies and secret agents. In addition to the James Bond adventures which appeared on the big screen, fans of the genre enjoyed such iconic TV shows as Mission: Impossible, The Man from UNCLE and The Avengers. Whilst the spy genre is still going strong, the sixties style was unique unto itself, and the latest slot from Play’n GO strives to give online casino players a nostalgic taste of how things used to be.
Catsuits and Gadgets
For anyone who wasn’t around to enjoy the spy shows of the 1960’s and has somehow failed to catch any of their reruns in the decades since, the genre was as much about style as it was about substance. The stories tended to be pretty simple, with a team of good guys doing their utmost to prevent some kind of catastrophe from being unleashed by the bad guys, but everyone involved had an unreasonably good sense of fashion, with the women wearing mini-skirts or figure-hugging catsuits and the men donning their own tailor-made suits to go about their business.
Another popular ingredient of special agent stories in the swinging sixties was technology. Both the good guys and the bad guys always had some clever kind of gadget to assist them in their efforts, and large computers were used to do everything from locating suspicious people to analysing evidence. Never mind the fact that those computers had less processing power than any modern pocket calculator – for the purposes of the stories they were every bit as useful as those used in today’s CSI adventures, and technology often played a key role in each episode.
Mission Cash
The Mission Cash slot game has five reels and twenty pay lines, and is set against a control room which is packed full of computer screens, keyboards, switches and flashing panels. This background is very nicely designed, and has just enough animation to make it look realistic without detracting from the main action.
The symbols appearing on the semi-transparent reels include the playing card suits of hearts, diamonds, clubs and spades – each of which shows a big city landscape – a computer expert called Agent Green, Agent Purple, who looks like a fashion model, a gun scatter, a female Agent Red in a catsuit, and a male Agent Blue who is the star of the show. All of these symbols are very well illustrated in a serious comic book style, and the game also contains plenty of equally impressive animations at appropriate points.
Audio is another strong point of this game, and Mission Cash boasts a soundtrack that would be perfectly good enough for any of the sixties spy shows which inspired it. Add in numerous gunshots and other special effects and this is definitely a game to play with the volume turned high.
Crosshair Wilds and Respins
The crosshairs of a gunsight points at the reels at all times, and if the crosshair focuses on an Agent Red or Agent Blue symbol, that symbol will become wild and expand to fill the entire reel. That wild reel will then be held in place whilst the rest of the reels spin again. This feature can be retriggered if the crosshair lands on one of the two main agents again, and this part of the game makes it possible for you to win up to 5,000 times your bet.
Free Spins
Should you spin the reels and manage to get the crosshair on a gun scatter, you will trigger a Free Spins round. This will give you eight free spins, and in this part of the game all four of the character symbols can be transformed into expanding wilds. This means that Agent Purple and Agent Green can expand to fill the reels in addition to Agent Blue and Agent Red, making it possible to achieve some spectacular combinations. Even better, if the crosshair lands on another scatter symbol you will be awarded an additional eight free spins.
The Essence of the Genre
‘Mission Cash is based on a well-loved theme, and we’re bringing the fun and excitement it generates into this game,’ said Johan Törnqvist, who is CEO at Play’n GO. Players will love how we’ve captured the essence of the genre in the look and the gameplay. We’re approaching the end of the year but, after Mission Cash, there are still plenty more titles to come. We’ve performed strongly throughout 2019, and we intend to continue that through the final quarter and into 2020.’
Your Mission…
… should you choose to accept it, is to head over to your favourite online casino which offers Play’n GO titles and take Mission Cash for a spin. Good luck.
