The latest game from Yggdrasil Gaming is one that has an impressively epic feel about it. Sahara Nights is based on the famous story of Aladdin and his magic lamp, and whilst it isn’t particularly complex as far as slot titles go, it is immensely rich in atmosphere. The Story of Aladdin

Thanks to several hugely popular animated and live-action movie versions of the story from Disney and other major film production companies, the story of Aladdin is familiar to everyone. However, the tale itself goes back centuries, and its publication can be traced right back to The Book of One Thousand and One Nights, which is a collection of folk tales that were translated from their original Arabic into English in the early part of the 18th century. The stories themselves, of course, are even older.

Whilst each adaptation of the story of Aladdin has tended to introduce its own embellishments or minor changes, the overall plot remains much the same. Aladdin is a poor boy who is sent by an evil sorcerer into a dangerous cave to retrieve a magic lamp. He inadvertently rubs the lamp and, in doing so, liberates a genie which has been trapped within it. The genie then helps Aladdin by granting his wishes, and the poor boy becomes rich, powerful and marries the local princess. The sorcerer tries to eliminate Aladdin in order to get the lamp, but is defeated by Aladdin and the genie, leaving Aladdin and his princess wife to rule the land.

Sahara Nights is faithful to this overall tale, and has a cartoon style which is reminiscent of the animated versions that have delighted cinema audiences over the last few decades. The game has five reels, three rows and twenty pay lines, and contains all the elements that fans of Aladdin and the magic lamp would hope to see.

The five reels are displayed in an ornate frame, and there are two main backgrounds to enjoy. The first, which is used in the main game, has a hue of royal purple, and shows one of the main rooms of the sultan’s palace. This has a chequered floor and arches which give access to a balcony that provides a dramatic view of the land beyond. The second background is only available in the Story Book Free Spins round, and will therefore be described a little later.

The lower-value symbols used in this game are four gems which are coloured orange, green, blue and red. Higher-value symbols comprise a goblet of gold and silver, a dagger, Aladdin, the Princess and the Sultan.
